Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Durrës this Friday, where the official ceremony for the presentation of the second phase of the "EU4Municipalities" project is taking place.
Before the start of the ceremony, Prime Minister Rama was seen in an informal meeting drinking coffee with the socialist mayors present at the event.
The project is financed by the European Union with a fund of 10 million euros, while Germany has contributed an additional 1 million euros.
The EU Ambassador to the country, Silvio Gonzato, emphasized that this program is tangible and brings benefits at the local level.
"It seems like deja vu to me that we were in Durrës last week, where the Archaeological Museum opened. Last week I told you that it was one of my favorite programs, and today I tell you that I also like this project for municipalities, because it places citizens at the center of Albania's journey towards the EU," said Gonzato.
The focus of this initiative is direct support to municipalities to improve public services, local infrastructure and strengthen institutional capacities.
Representatives of the government, local government, and international partners will participate in the event, while the focus will be on investments and cooperation for local development.
Minister of State for Local Government, Ervin Demo, said that the EU program EU4Municipalities II will support municipalities through three components.
In his speech at the event for this project, he said that municipalities will benefit through grant schemes, technical assistance, and data digitization.
“As Albania continues its path towards integration and strengthens efforts to consolidate local democracy, improve public services and empower municipalities as engines of local development. EU4Municipalities II reflects a strong partnership between the government, the EU and the German government and other stakeholders that play an important role in the territory. With a total budget of 11 million euros, the project will be implemented from this year to 2029. It will support municipalities, which will receive or benefit from 3 components, the first through the grant scheme, dedicated to concrete investments in local infrastructure. It will enable municipalities to respond to the real needs of the community. Second, through technical assistance, municipalities will strengthen their capacity in strategic planning, preparation of projects according to EU standards. Third, through the data digitalization component, the project will monetize the way municipalities function and provide services. " , he said.
