The Polish-born driver of the truck that collided with the van carrying PAOK fans in Romania said he was shocked by yesterday's accident with seven victims, Greek media report.
"I have driven a truck for 34 years and I have never seen anything like this in my life. I have driven over 1,000,000 kilometers and this is the first time I have encountered such a situation," he stressed, describing for Romania's Libertatea what happened in a matter of seconds on the DN6 highway, which Romanians themselves call the "road of death," Greek media write.
As reported by Romanian media, yesterday's accident is the worst to have occurred in Timisoara County in at least 20 years.
The van driver was allegedly maneuvering to see when it was the right time to overtake, according to what an eyewitness claimed.
"He realized during the overtaking that he could not complete the overtaking and tried to enter his lane. The moment he avoided the truck on his right, he collided with the red truck," said the witness, who was the one who called 112. The witness said that after the accident, he saw one of the survivors getting out of the car on foot.
The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday in Timisoara, Romania, where seven PAOK Thessaloniki fans lost their lives, including one Albanian, while three other people were injured.
