The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, stated in a press statement that the institution he leads will implement a new communication model with the media and citizens.

According to him, the changes aim to provide more accurate and responsible information to the public.

"I am here today, before you, to open a new chapter in the way of communication that I, as the Director General of the State Police, but also all the leaders of local directorates and other police structures, must have in relation to the media and the public," said Hita.

He emphasized that the State Police considers transparency a necessary part of its work and links it to building trust between citizens and security institutions.

"The State Police is an institution at the service of citizens and every action we take is based on guaranteeing order, public safety and law enforcement. For this very reason, we consider transparency an essential element of our work," he declared.

Hita said that the decision to change the method of communication came after citizen reactions and concerns about the way criminal events are reported in daily police summaries.

"Today I want to share with you an important decision of the State Police, which is directly related to the way we communicate with the public," said the police director.

He added that the institution has held consultations with specialists and counterparts in the Balkans and Europe to assess the impact of the current way of reporting criminal events.

"I have received and listened to these concerns with great seriousness and responsibility, I have consulted with specialists in the field, I have communicated with many of my counterparts in the Balkans and Europe, and it turns out that the way we act negatively affects society and the daily lives of citizens," said Hita.

According to him, the new communication model will not limit transparency, but will aim for more professional and verified information.

"I want to emphasize clearly, this is not a retreat from transparency, on the contrary, it is a step forward towards higher quality and more professional transparency," he declared.

Hita also listed the concrete changes that will be applied by the State Police. He announced that monthly and annual statistics on crime will be published on the institution's official website, while information on developing events will be provided by police leaders in the field and by spokespersons.

"First, all monthly and annual statistical data on crime and public safety will be fully accessible on the official website of the State Police," he said.

"Secondly, for dynamic events, the Police officers on the scene will provide the necessary information to the media and the public, in real time and accompanied by preliminary information from the Police spokesperson ," Hita added.

He further announced that local police leaders will hold monthly conferences to present results and issues in the regions, while for operations of high public interest there will be official information in real time.

"Thirdly, the heads of local Police directorates, with their staffs, will hold monthly conferences to make the work, results and challenges in each district transparent," he declared.

"Fourth, for events with high public impact or important police operations, the State Police will inform in a timely and complete manner, through official channels ," concluded Hita.
