Diagnosed with tumor, ex-England manager touches with his message: You have to

Sven-Goran Eriksson has said he hopes to be remembered as a "positive guy" after the former England manager gave a farewell message.

Eriksson revealed in January that he had been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and had "at best a year to live".

The 76-year-old's life has been chronicled in a documentary for Amazon Prime Video, covering his eventful five years in charge of England between 2001 and 2006.

The Swedish coach has also coached Manchester City and Leicester during his long and varied career which has included international stints on four continents.

"I had a good life. I think we all dread the day we die, but life is also about death. You have to learn to accept it as it is. Hopefully in the end people will say, 'yes, he was a good man'. But not everyone will say that. I hope you will remember me as a positive guy who tried to do everything he could. Don't be sorry, smile. Thanks for everything, coaches, players, fans, it's been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it," says Eriksson in the closing moments of the documentary, which will be released on August 23.

Eriksson was the first foreign manager to take charge of England's players, leading them to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.

He was criticized, however, for failing to get the best out of the so-called "Golden Generation", with England also exiting Euro 2004 in the last eight.

The manager won Swedish, Portuguese and Italian titles at Gothenburg, Benfica and Lazio, while his life away from football also frequently made headlines, including his relationship with TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson and Football Association (FA) secretary Faria Alas.
