Marash Kumbulla, the defender of the Albanian national team, could be ready for another adventure in “La Liga”. According to Italian media, the Roma center-back has returned strongly to the wish list of Espanyol, a club where he previously played on loan and where he left a positive impression.
The 24-year-old has now returned to Roma after his loan spell at Espanyol ended, but his future in the Italian capital is uncertain. The Reds are considering a loan move again, with the Catalans seen as one of the main candidates to secure his services. Espanyol sporting director Fran Garagarza has admitted that the team is working intensively to strengthen their defence in the summer transfer window.
So far, Espanyol has brought in Miguel Rubio from Granada, Hugo Pérez from Villarreal B and Jose Salinas from Elche, building a solid base in the back. However, Kumbulla is seen as a player with international experience and high qualities, who could make the difference in the new 2025-2026 season. "We are positioned for some moves, but it is not always in our hands. There is competition and the economic situation is not easy. However, we are working to do it properly," said Garagarza, hinting that negotiations with Roma are open.
If the deal goes through, Kumbulla would be Espanyol's fourth signing of the summer. In addition to the transfer window, Manolo Gonzalez's team is preparing for the start of La Liga, where they will make their debut against Atletico Madrid at the RCDE Stadium.
Kumbulla has been a starter in the last match for the Albanian national team and a return to La Liga could give him the minutes and stability he needs ahead of the Rossoneri's important matches. A move to Espanyol would also allow him to return to a league where he has shown he can adapt quickly, providing security and strength in defence.
