The former midfielder of the Albanian national team, Lorik Cana, has opposed the organization of the 21-year-old European Championship together with Serbia in 2027.
The former captain of the national team, commented for the first time in "Tring Sport" the strong debate that has created in the public opinion the joint candidacy of the AFL with the Serbian Football Federation to organize such an important event.
For Cana, this is not the right moment, as several processes of normalizing relations between the two peoples must first be passed.
" It seems rushed to me. Without going through some processes of normalizing relations, it is very difficult to have joint organizations, despite the good intentions of the Federation. At the moment, I don't think it's the right step ", said Lorik Cana for "Tring Sport".
The Albanian Football Federation and that of Serbia have come together and submitted to UEFA the joint request to organize the finals of "EURO 2027" for the U-21 age group.
This cooperation comes because the conditions regarding the number of stadiums required for our country to host all the final matches of the U-21 European Championship are not met.
The news was also confirmed by the head of the ALF, Armando Duka.
" In 2027 we are a candidate country to organize the European Championship for U-21. Since we do not meet the conditions to organize a championship only in Albania, since eight stadiums are needed as a minimum, we have joined Serbia in a candidacy to organize a championship in Albania and Serbia. I think this is good news for Albanian football and Serbian football, for the Albanian people, for the Serbian people. After all, we also organize through sports, why not have a better life ", said Duka.
The organization of this event with Serbia has not been well received by the Red and Black fans, the grouping of the national team.
TKZ talks about another scenario that overlooks Kosovo. According to them, Serbia has applied alone and since it does not fulfill the conditions, the AFL has come to its aid.
