After a failed season, the future of Turkish Inter striker Hakan Calhanoglu has been seriously questioned, following reports from Turkey claiming that the midfielder has officially requested a departure from the black and blue club to return to his homeland, to Galatasaray.
According to 'Sabahspor' sources, Calhanoglu has made a direct request to Inter's management.
"I came to this club as a free agent four years ago and I have always given my best. I want to continue my career at Galatasaray and I ask for your understanding. Let me return home," Hakan is believed to have told the black and blue leaders.
His request has fuelled speculation of a possible transfer this summer, although Football Italia had previously reported that Inter are unwilling to let the 31-year-old leave for a low price, given that he has a contract until June 2027.
The Blues have begun moving to strengthen the midfield, formalizing the transfer of Petar Sucic, as well as wanting Lazio's Nicolo Rovella, however the capital club refuses to negotiate for less than 50 million euros, which is the player's release clause.
Another signal of Calhanoglu's desire to leave came in an unusual way from his barber, who posted a photo with the player on social media, accompanied by the caption: "Is this happening?"
Calhanoglu is currently injured and has not participated in the Club World Cup matches, which has raised more questions about his role in the coach's plans for next season.
