Michael Schumacher, in addition to being one of the greatest of all time in F1, was also one of the richest sportsmen in the world. His personal wealth in 2012, his last season, exceeded the value of 1 billion dollars!
However, the fairy-tale life of Shum and his family would change radically at the end of 2013. The German pilot was involved in a skiing accident in the winter resort of Mirabel, which caused him severe brain damage.
After hospital treatment, Michael was sent home, to a specially designed room where he is monitored 24 hours a day by a specialized team of doctors and nurses.
Shumaker's family, with his wife Korina now at the helm, have done everything to provide him with the best care possible, but also to protect him from prying eyes.
Little is known about the health of the 7-time Formula 1 pilot. We only know that he is in Switzerland.
However, all of the above cost the Shumaker family dearly. According to the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica", the family pays about 7 million dollars a year for his care.
The German great's family recently sold his private jet, a tower in Norway and significant parts of his watch collection.
