The UEFA Champions League is approaching its decisive phase and, in addition to sporting glory, the clubs are also benefiting from huge financial sums. After the conclusion of the round of 16, the eight quarter-finalist teams have been determined, including the three Spanish giants: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
All three Spanish teams managed to eliminate English opponents and continue the race for the trophy, but also for the huge income that the competition offers. The reward system includes a fixed participation fee, bonuses for results in the league stage, as well as rewards for each round passed.
Up to this stage, the earnings rankings show that English and German clubs lead the way. Arsenal holds the top spot with around €72.24 million, followed by Bayern Munich with €69.83 million and Liverpool with €67.42 million.
Among Spanish teams, Barcelona has collected around 65.39 million euros, leaving behind Real Madrid with 61.43 million and Atletico Madrid with 58.45 million euros. This list also includes PSG and Sporting CP, which have also benefited from considerable amounts.
The prize structure is detailed: participation guarantees over 18 million euros, while each victory in the league stage brings over 2 million euros. Progression to the 1/8, quarter-finals and beyond significantly increases the income, while a place in the semi-finals ensures another 15 million euros.
The climax is reached in the final: the second-placed team benefits from around 18.5 million euros, while the winner of the trophy receives a full 25 million euros, making this edition one of the most profitable in the competition's history.
With the competition entering its hottest phase, every match now has double value: for the trophy and for millions of extra euros in the clubs' coffers.
