Barcelona triumphed yesterday evening against Olympiacos, in the match valid for the 3rd round of the UEFA Champions League. The challenge that took place at the “Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys”, ended with a tennis score of 6-1.
But it wasn't the result that got the most attention in this duel. In the 57th minute, the Greek team's player, Heze. The latter received his second yellow card, after a light contact that his hand had with the face of the Catalan midfielder, Casado.
That was enough and the main referee of the match, Urs Schneider, gave Heze a second yellow card, which resulted in a red card, leaving Olympiacos with 10 men. Surprisingly, he consulted the VAR, even though when it is not a direct “red card” intervention, help from technology never comes.
This situation has brought widespread reaction online, not only from Greek fans. Many football fans accuse Barcelona and president Joan Laporta of "buying" referees, not only in La Liga, but now also in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, this decision of the Swiss referee is expected to be appealed by the Olympiacos club. As for the referee himself, there is still no announcement whether measures will be taken or not, for a decision that even according to football specialists, was wrong.
