Renowned singer Rovena Dilo has sparked discussions after a strong statement about rappers and the influence of rap music on society. Dilo expressed her concern about what she described as a "provocative genre" that can encourage dangerous behavior and polarize young people.
“If you listen to Albanian rap, 50% become criminals,” said Dilo, adding that music should be “a nourishing, inspiring, beautifying tool” and not an impulse towards violence or extremism. She raised the rhetorical question of what inspires a rapper to take a Kalashnikov and kill, or to pour champagne on their heads, as a metaphor for the two different realities that music can incite.
"If you listen to Albanian rap, 50% become criminals. This is the inspiration it gives them. Music should be a nourishing, inspiring and beautifying tool, where does this lead? This genre is very provocative. What inspires a rapper: to take a Kalashnikov and kill, or to throw champagne at their heads?" she said.
