A circus bear suddenly got angry and attacked 48-year-old trainer Sergei Prichinich, after he was balancing on an electric monopate, at the show in Biysk, southern Russia.
The performer then manages to free himself from the aggressive grip of the bear named "Gurabije", which bit the stick with which he was controlling him.
After the intervention of another circus worker, the bear moved enough to allow the keeper to leave as alarmed spectators looked on in horror.
Fortunately, the bear seems to have lost its aggressiveness and started following Prichinich's orders again as if nothing had happened.
Nikita Mikhailov, head of the Moretti circus, later said of the incident: "Toward the end of the number, the bear got angry with Sergei and physically fought. But he deliberately did not resist and waited until she calmed down. The show then went on as normal."
Officials said no one was injured in the incident.
"They are animals, they don't change their behavior, maybe they express their emotions in this way, the coaches know that," added the representative.
The development comes after several more serious incidents have been reported involving performing animals such as bears wearing shorts being forced to play 'boxing matches' in front of audiences.
Animal protection activists have long campaigned for the banning of animals in circuses for profit, writes the Daily Mail network.
