The opposition councilor in the Tirana Municipal Council, Fabian Topollari, called the procedure for dismissing Erion Veliaj wrong.
Topollari stated that the chosen procedure is wrong and has the nuances of an internal political war.
He also emphasized that the Municipal Council should have addressed SPAK with a request that Erion Veliaj be present at this meeting.
" In fact, what you are doing is not the dismissal as a political opponent would want. An opponent would want to defeat him where political battles are fought, and it even has the appearance of a war within the species."
Because the procedure we have chosen to dismiss him is completely wrong, the Constitution stipulates that the mayor is dismissed only by the Council of Ministers when a violation of the law is found.
You are dismissing him because he has been absent from work. You boast about his work and propose his dismissal. The Constitution has determined how a mayor is dismissed. You have chosen a wrong way to fulfill a need of the Prime Minister, but which will do through the hands of the municipal council something that is within his competence.
The case of the 3-month absence is the case when the mayor is absent from duty without reason. I think that Erion Veliaj should be prosecuted by the Prosecutor's Office for many more things. But today Erion Veliaj is innocent and cannot be dismissed as long as he is being prosecuted and is innocent. This is happening to settle scores within the family and to remove Erion Veliaj once and for all and this is the reason why I am not satisfied with what is happening in the municipal council. If we wanted to hear him, we should send him to the relevant bodies so that he could express himself before us" , said Topollari.
