Independent MP Marjana Koçeku has reacted after the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who presented the political document "Besa" at the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group and called on Albanians to give it "besa".
Through a post on the social network Facebook, Koçeku states that besa is a sacred concept, inherited from Albanian tradition and cannot be used as a political slogan.
" People who have no idea what a besa is talk about. First of all, a besa is an unwritten contract between people, and being unwritten, it is a deeply natural contract. Our ancestors were not lacking when they gave their word and their besa and tied it to the earth, the valley, the mountain and the stone. These were not simply the decoration of the besa, but its witnesses, its very substance. They knew that a person cannot give their besa to another, breaking their besa to the place where they live ," writes Koçek.
The MP continues by criticizing those who, according to her, see land only as an opportunity for construction and investment, emphasizing that such an approach cannot understand the true meaning of the covenant.
" Those who see land only as land for multi-story towers and resorts can hardly understand this concept that for us mountaineers is extremely sacred. That is why we do not sell the land and the tower. Of course, a besa can also be given in luxury towers and resorts, but it is not a besa. Because until now we have seen this type of besa mainly only in films with mafiosi and financial speculators. We know how they end ," she says.
At the end of the reaction, Koçek brings to attention the tradition of the Highlands, saying that even people who have lost touch with their country return to the tower of their ancestors to seek allegiance.
" I know well from the highland code where I come from that, even when bloodsuckers or people of crime, when they want to close their problems, apart from the law, wherever they are in the world, even though they may have built luxurious towers or live in resorts, they are forced to come and beg for allegiance to the old tower of their ancestors, to the log or to the old church of the village. Why? Because that is where the old spiritual connection that they have lost is. Only there do they have the opportunity to become human once again. Therefore, people who lose their connection to the land, their place and nature cannot be trusted! ", concludes the MP.
