Edi Rama, during the event for the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party of Albania in Durrës, praised the role of this political force in the transformation of Albania over the years.
Rama stated that this date not only serves to remember the history of the Socialist Party, but also to reflect on the contribution of those who, according to him, gave the party and the country "as much as they could" in difficult and today unimaginable periods.
Recalling past years, Rama said that during Berisha's government, political opponents were denied the right to gather and organize rallies.
"Thank you very much for this hospitality and with regret that many people were outside, unable to enter, because the hall was full. I believe that on this anniversary, there are many who are part of this history, of this journey, of this celebration, regardless of how many of them may be in a hall or around a hall. This anniversary for us is an important moment, not simply to remember a date, but to stop at a station and to appreciate all those who gave to the SP as much as they could, wherever they could and as it emerged from their words here, at certain moments, for many in this hall, are completely unimaginable. It is unimaginable today in this hall, that you want to gather and that the SP does not allow you to gather", said Rama, among other things.
The Head of Government also emphasized that thanks to the work and dedication of the Socialist Party, Albania is today closer than ever before to the European Union.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that it was the Socialist Party that 'gave' stability to our country, at a time when, according to him, Albania needed it more than ever.
"But this has been the reality of those who took the courage to establish the SP, especially in territories where the mere name of the SP created a negative reaction. However, today it is worth stopping at the station, for the fact that throughout all these years, in one way or another, Albania's journey was identified with the journey of the SP. And this is a fact. Because if Albania today is a different Albania, this is primarily the work, deeds and merit of the great family of Albanian socialists and progressives. The history of the SP is the history of an internal transformation, in function of a country that needed to be transformed. The SP became the spokesperson for the country's needs and at the same time the power that addressed those needs. Today it is unimaginable to talk about a country in search of reasonable stability. When Albania needed stability, it was the SP that enabled this stability. If today Albania is closer than ever to the EU, there is only one big reason, which is the strength, dedication and work of the SP", Rama continued.
Rama said that the Socialist Party was unable to secure a ninth mandate in this district by just a small number of votes.
"In the elections we left behind, we obtained the best historical result for the SP. For a very small number of votes, we could not obtain the ninth mandate, but we guaranteed a very large distance from our opponents," said Rama.
He said that those who are not part of the organization and electoral campaigns may seek excuses for the losses, but according to him, the Socialists' results are the fruit of long and organized work.
"Whoever is not involved in this big family and our journey, who has no idea what it means to be part of the organizations and campaigns, can find all kinds of excuses for losing. But whoever is part of this journey and our results, knows very well that they stem from work, organization, dedication and an extraordinary belief in oneself," declared the Prime Minister.
Today, the Socialist Party of Durrës celebrates the 35th anniversary of its founding. Through a ceremony held in the coastal city, the activity of this political force was reflected, throughout these years of democracy.
The event was attended by several important figures of this political force, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, but also long-time supporters of the Socialist Party. During the ceremony, other activities were also held, which brought a festive atmosphere among those present. The leaders of the Socialist Party had reserved certificates of appreciation for 9 of the founders of the Durrës branch of the Socialist Party, to appreciate the contribution they have made to this political force.
