"Beyond the "friendship" forced by duty, the meeting with family members after many years, finally made it possible for Avdul Banushi to open his mouth and tell me about many things he had not witnessed in the marathon process that had lasted two years."
In the following, Piro Nuredini, the former security officer of Burrel prison, tells what he learned in good faith from the VIP convict who was serving the sentence for the attempted assassination of Enver Hoxha. Now another file is opened anew, not simply for Avdul Banushi, but for an entire espionage network that operated in Tirana and not only with the object of the image of the regime in Albania and the elimination of the communist leadership. But what did the security man discover from the confidential conversations with Enver's assassin...
It was afternoon when we arrived in Gjirokastra. According to the order, Avdul Banushi (the agent who would eliminate Enver Hoxha) was placed in one of the dungeons of the Department of Internal Affairs. The news of his arrival set the Banushi tribe in motion, brothers, sister and brother-in-law. A full four days and four nights. They met with Avdul. Returning to Burrel troubled him even more spiritually. In the late hours of the evening, as I left him in his room, in the prison, realizing what I was thinking, he said to me: - You will leave me alone for some time, until I collect myself...
- No problem, I told him. When you are ready, let me know... After three days, in the mailbox, I found the letter Avduli sent me. I opened the envelope in one breath and read: “I'm waiting for you to come. As we left it, we will start talking just the two of us, without the presence of others. I want to show you, as a start, a problem that constitutes a real labyrinth…”
I prepared the office and ordered the guard officer to bring him there. I filled two glasses with brandy and we clinked them congratulating each other. As soon as we took the first sip, Avduli took the floor: - Today I want to talk about our base at the "X" hotel in Durrës, where we would stay after entering Albania. We would go there, with the help of the Yugoslav intelligence agent, Abibe C., residing in the city of Kavaja. We would establish links with it through the slogan: "The rock of Kavaja is mined" and the counter-slogan: "We have a specialist for the deactivation of mines". Abibe C. was in contact with another Yugoslav intelligence agent, ZD, a major officer in the army, from whom he received military information of interest to the Yugoslavs. Abibe C. submitted these data to the UDB officer, JM, in the physical meetings, every three months, that they held in a village in Shishtavec, in the district of Kukës and sometimes in the Yugoslav territory. Abibe C. is originally from the villages of Kukës and has some relatives there. This justifies her visit there. She is about 35 years old and separated from her husband, of average height, brunette, presentable and well-kept female. When I left for Albania, AH, originally from Gjakova and living in New York, who had not long since come to America from Kosovo and had become close to our organization, told me about it. AH had been a UDB officer and had a relationship with Abibe C. He gave me her photo a week before departure and when I was arrested at the border, the photo along with some other items were seized and confiscated. When I was asked at the inquest about the photographs, I said they were my friends in America. AH also told me about the channel that the Yugoslav intelligence had in Durrës. KL, residing in this city and working at the "X" hotel, maintained connections with the UDB, through Abibe C. I am convinced that the fugitive Xhevdet Mustafa, who came as a saboteur in 1982, after the clash with the Albanian police, took the lead for in Kavaja, with the idea of taking refuge with Abibe C...
The Albanian general who serves for foreigners
While talking to me in good faith, Avduli stayed for a while and after some time he reminded me that he would tell me the names of other agents who worked for foreign intelligence. In the next meeting, he told me, I will talk about a major officer in the Ministry of Defense who works for an anti-Albanian agency. One of his brothers is an officer of the Ministry of Interior. It is named after an ancient Greek philosopher. He is passionate about hunting. I learned this fact in Ioannina, in 1974, when I had come from America to enter Albania. There, through my friend, N. Plesati, a fugitive from Albania, living in Preveza, I met Ilia P., who was the secretary of a Western embassy in Tirana and served as a secret spy. That's what Avduli told me in those moments and after asking my permission, he left. So, I went to my office in the Branch and started processing the information related to the foreign intelligence network.
- Ilia P, - continued Avdyli, when we met in Ioannina, he spoke with N. Plesati and L. Guveli about three people, from a southern city of Albania, who I later learned from N. Plesati were KK, QJ, BA, who acted cooperatively as senior agents. One of these was an important functionary. N. Plesati suggested that when I enter Albania, I should try to meet them with the slogan "We must love the source". With them you will find safe bases and away from danger. Because they are trusted by the government. I was surprised by this information, not only that I knew the above persons personally, but that I had obtained this very information before from another trusted source. I was sure that if I sent this information to the ministry, it would be appreciated immediately. Although they were trusted by the power, they were not part of any powerful clan. Afterwards, Avduli told me about the bases of FRASH in Tirana, Vlorë, Gjirokastër, Korçë, Elbasan and elsewhere. In the meantime, he also remembered the name of the major officer in the Ministry of Defense, who was in touch with the secretary of the foreign embassy, who was called SM and one of his brothers worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. - Embassy secretary Ilia P - continued Avduli, - in Ioannina, told N. Plesat and L. Guveli that SM, with Ilia's intervention a year ago, was transferred from the district where he served and appointed to the Ministry of Defense. He presented him with an expensive shotgun. Next, Avdyli told me previously unknown facts. He told me about some people who were in the service of the organization FRASH, abroad. I knew some of them, especially those living in Vlora and Gjirokastër. Important bases were also in Savër i Lushnja, where some opponents of the system suffered exile. Connections with the base in Savër were maintained through a collaborator from Lushnja. During this conversation, Avduli explained to me in detail the event of November 1974, when he had come to Albania from America, with his friend from Devolli, Ibrahim D., to assassinate Enver Hoxha.../ Pamphlet
