The "Golden" gardener slams SPAK prosecutors in court

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has concluded the final conclusions in the retrial of Festim Bexhdili, a gardener at the luxury complex "Golden Resort", accused of involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Jani Prenga, an event linked to drug dealing and conflicts between criminal groups.

The case has been returned for retrial following the Supreme Court's decision to accept Bexhdil's request for reconsideration, following his life imprisonment sentence in the two previous levels of the judiciary.

SPAK again requested the maximum sentence for Bexhdili, considering him an active part of the criminal group that kidnapped and then killed Jani Prenga. According to prosecutors, the motive for the kidnapping was related to a stolen quantity of drugs from the victim's brother.

Prosecutors Behar Dibra and Elida Kaçkini have meanwhile held different positions in the GJKKO Appeal hearing for Festim Bixhdili, accused of the kidnapping and disappearance of Jani Prenge on January 17, 2020 on the Kamëz-Shijak axis, where he was tortured to death in the 'Golden' complex according to camera footage and then the body disappeared without a trace.

Prosecutor Kaçkini requested that the life sentence remain in effect, while the other prosecutor Behar Dibra requested a sentence of 20 years in prison. Kaçkini insisted on her position with the argument that Bizhdili was part of the structured criminal group and knew the other persons accused of the incident, which she said was also confirmed by SKY ECC communications.

Data obtained from encrypted communication platforms "Sky ECC" reveal conversations between key organized crime figures such as Dritan Rexhepi and Gentian Funiqi, who mention a person with the nickname "Bing Beng", who is suspected of having mediated in the conflict that led to the kidnapping.

Security camera footage shows that Bexhdili, on January 17, 2020, traveled to Shijak and was then seen at the "Golden Resort", where he entered the garage holding a white phone in his hand. According to SPAK, a few minutes later, Altin Hajri, another defendant in the case, arrived at the same location.

The prosecution claims that Bexhdili was not a peripheral figure, but had a direct role in the kidnapping, which according to the investigation was planned in advance, the victim was followed for several days before being kidnapped.

For his part, Festim Bexhdili has denied involvement in the crime, stating in court that:
"I do not agree with the hostage-taking and murder of Jan Prenga. I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. I am a criminal and I was doing my job. I leave the decision to God and the Court."

The Special Court is expected to announce the verdict on July 25, at 11:00.
