Tirana and Kruja Police forces have extended controls to the remote mountainous areas of Kruja, as part of the operation against the cultivation of narcotic plants.
According to police sources, during the checks carried out since the early hours of Tuesday morning, around 5,000 suspected cannabis plants were discovered and destroyed. They were cultivated in approximately 100 plots scattered in difficult-to-reach areas.
The same sources report that the growers had chosen to organize the plots into small areas, with 50 to 100 plants each, in order to avoid detection.
The narcotic plants have been destroyed on site by the operation teams, while investigations are focused on identifying and capturing the persons involved in this illegal activity.
So far, there have been no reports of arrests, but the police have identified several suspects, who have been declared wanted.
15 police groups have been engaged in the action, controlling various mountainous areas of the district, while the operation is expected to continue in the coming days.
We recall that yesterday, an anti-drug operation was conducted in the Kruja area, where plots of cannabis were discovered and thousands of plants were seized.
