Italian police have arrested a 22-year-old Albanian, resident of Spinetoli, suspected of being part of a cocaine trafficking network in the area.
During a routine check, he was caught with narcotics, hidden in an orange package, typical of a well-known brand of chocolate eggs.
Represented by lawyer Umberto Gramenzi, the Albanian appeared yesterday before the Ascoli court for a summary trial. The judge confirmed the arrest, ordered him to remain in the municipality of Spinetoli and postponed the case until February 6 for further proceedings.
The judicial police operation began over the weekend. A patrol of Guardia di Finanza officers was patrolling the Monsampolo area, along Salaria Street. The officers stopped a Toyota Auris driven by a young man of Albanian origin.
He appeared nervous when asked for his identification. The officers' database revealed that he had numerous previous drug trafficking convictions. They then asked him if he had any drugs on him, but the 22-year-old replied that he did not.
However, the financial police noticed an orange package in the driver's door pocket: it contained 15 doses of cocaine, weighing approximately 8 grams.
