The agreement for the Ombudsman, in tradition, is a candidacy proposed by the opposition. But the tradition also has a condition: the candidate must be accepted by the majority, because it has the votes. And in the end, it is not the opposition's lawyer who is elected, but the Ombudsman.
The votes of several DP deputies to support the entry of 6 candidates into the race, between them and Shabani, have eclipsed both the main events (the Balluku issue) and the movements in the party (Salianji). The key words now are: mistake and apology.
What could the opposition do better? Discipline. To present only one very good, non-partisan candidate, and let the majority bear the political responsibility of rejection. Either start the process from a figure with an indisputable contribution to the DP, as in the case of Ms. Kalaja, or to support only Mr. Ndregjoni, who presented himself as a candidate in the previous legislature.
What really happened? The opposition entered the process without any indication that it would support a candidate. Opposition MPs supported several candidates for the hearing phase, giving the SP the perfect alibi.
The majority did not sign for any candidate? ("We have no candidates") and technically did not commit a foul, but a trick!
Was there a Rama-Berisha bargain? Sale? Betrayal? It is hardly credible that the DP leader bargained with the Prime Minister for the Ombudsman.

And as often happens, in recent years the opposition did not miss the opportunity to harm itself and to give food for the accusation: "these are together." While the majority moves at its own pace according to the Bolshevik slogan: "all power to the Soviets," the main opposition force must learn lessons so as not to score own goals!
