Prime Minister Edi Rama warned of drastic measures against those operating in the fuel market and not respecting the decisions of the Transparency Board regarding the price of diesel and gasoline.
From his podcast that is broadcast every Sunday on social media platforms, Edi Rama said that the Government has taken the necessary measures by reducing excise duty by 20%, the price of diesel exceeds 220 lek per liter and the price of gasoline 200 lek per liter.
"This week we also approved the promised normative act for the reduction of the excise tax on oil, at the moment when oil, as a result of the impact of the war on international markets, exceeds the limit of 220 lek. So, the reduction of the excise tax by 20% is a measure that comes into effect immediately when the price of oil exceeds 220 lek per liter and that of gasoline exceeds 200 lek per liter.
These thresholds are predetermined to guarantee a fair and balanced intervention in relation to market developments, which are developments that we do not have in our hands, are not the cause of them and do not have the power to stop them, except that we have the obligation to treat them in order to cushion the immediate impact on consumers, without, on the other hand, compromising the stability of public finances at a time when uncertainty in international markets remains high and equally dynamic.
The measure will remain in force until the international situation is fully stabilized, while the Transparency Board, which has been put into motion, will remain the guarantor of any development in global markets to reflect in a fair and verifiable manner what should happen in the domestic market. This is an appropriate, timely reaction that guarantees quick decision-making, that embodies full responsibility and that will make it possible for citizens, vehicle drivers, not to be abused by oil distributors. The measures for all those who will violate the price determined by the Transparency Board, based on the markets, will be drastic ", said Rama.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister announced what he considered a historic increase in budget revenues, emphasizing that 1 billion euros in additional revenue is expected to be collected.
According to him, this is not due to increased taxes, but to economic growth and increased tax and customs administration.
" This week has also been characterized by another encouraging balance: the increase in budget revenues at an absolutely historic level. An important indicator of the stage the Albanian economy is in today, a meaningful reflection of its strengthening. Contrary to all those who preach the increase in corruption and the increase in abuse, the economy proves that it grows precisely because corruption decreases and abuses decrease, because these two cannot go together otherwise.
The revenues that have reached new levels are precisely the result of a much more efficient administration, with much less corruption and abuse, a characteristic of the serious disease inherited from the past, which we have fought and will continue to fight day by day.
According to projections, in the period we are going through, over 1 billion euros of additional revenue is expected to be collected, and not from tax increases, because we have not increased taxes, but from economic growth and, of course, also from increasing the quality of tax and customs administration, increasing the quality of control regarding transactions at the business level, between business and consumer and business with business, as well as increasing fiscal awareness. We are in a situation where we can share with those who have supported us and elected us this important moment, telling them that their vote is valid and appreciated every day, at every step, in every sector, and this increase in revenue is a very meaningful example , "said Rama.
