How Helidon Gjikoka has been protected for 5 years by the socialist government, while the demolition decision is not executed
In southern Albania, where hundreds of illegal buildings have been demolished in recent years in the name of legality and urban development, one construction continues to challenge all institutions, the building built without a permit by Helidon Gjikoka, in 2020, in the territory of the Himara Municipality.
Unlike dozens of citizens who have seen their properties razed by the fadromas for minor violations, the Gjikoka construction has not been affected even after five years, despite the fact that two administrative measures have been taken against it by the municipality, a fine and a demolition order, as well as criminal proceedings for illegal construction.
Helidon Gjikoka has been convicted by the court for the criminal offense of fraud, but it seems that his construction has not even come close to being punished.
Reliable sources from within the Himara Municipality have confirmed to our editorial team that the reason for the non-implementation of the decisions is the direct intervention of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is suspected of having exerted pressure and threats on the mayor, Vangjel Tavo, to prevent the execution of the demolition order.
Mayor Tavo has refused to respond to requests for information, raising serious questions about the transparency and independence of local decision-making.
This situation raises major concerns about the standard of justice in the country, where the law is applied only to the weak, while the strong with political connections remain untouched, even when they are criminally convicted.
The construction of Helidon Gjikoka has become a symbol of impunity, in a system where organized crime and power help each other to remain above the law while ordinary citizens are punished without any mercy./ Pamphlet
