Ukraine is expected to intensify military operations against Russia after President Volodymyr Zelensky approved a 40-day plan prepared by the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which aims to increase pressure on Moscow to end the war.

The announcement comes after weeks of coordinated attacks on military and energy targets in Russian-occupied Crimea, as well as drone strikes on strategic Russian infrastructure.

Speaking about the new plan, Zelensky praised the SBU's work in using military technology and especially drones in support of frontline operations.

"For several months in a row, the SBU has demonstrated the highest performance in protecting Ukrainian positions on the front lines through the use of various types of drones," Zelensky said on Thursday evening.

The Ukrainian president did not provide further details on the content of the plan, stressing that military planning remains confidential. However, he praised the results achieved by the security services in striking Russian forces.

He also mentioned the SBU's success in "hitting the personnel and equipment of the occupying forces."

Zelensky's reference to medium- and long-range "sanction" operations, a term Ukrainian authorities use for drone strikes on targets in Russia and occupied territories, is seen as a signal that other similar attacks could take place in the coming weeks.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have stepped up attacks on Russian military logistics, energy infrastructure and strategic facilities, striking targets in Crimea and as far as Moscow, in an attempt to weaken Russia's operational capability and increase pressure on the Kremlin.
