The new meeting between the two American and Russian presidents is expected to take place in Budapest, which is already being prepared based on Orban's words.
US President Donald Trump is keen to add another diplomatic success to his list, as his political capital has been significantly boosted by the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Although the agreement is under pressure as Hamas continues its purges, the prospect of a solution and the “frozen” conflict in Ukraine is mobilising the American President, giving him a second chance at peace in 2025.
In this context, the 47th President of the United States will welcome his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to the White House today, while it is more than clear that during the bilateral meeting, Mr. Trump will again become a party to the Ukrainian request for the provision of American Tomahawk missiles, as this particular weapons system can strike deep into Russian territory.

In this perspective, Tomahawk missiles are becoming one of the White House's main negotiating tools and leverage for pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the American side wanting another personal triumph that will further raise Trump's leadership profile.
For this reason, after Alaska and the US President's "Waterloo", Donald Trump is said to now want a "new Peace Summit", a model similar to the one in Egypt regarding Gaza. Only this time, the new meeting between the American and Russian Presidents is expected to take place in Budapest, which is already being prepared based on the words of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán.
After a phone conversation between the presidents of the US and Russia, which lasted over two and a half hours yesterday, the road to Budapest is open, but not paved with wheels, as thorns still remain regarding:
- the occupation of Ukrainian territories
- vetoes Ukraine's accession to NATO.
- demilitarization of Ukraine.
At the same time, the American President did not hide his disappointment at the "Waterloo" meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, after his Russian counterpart put him in an extremely difficult position. Despite the warm atmosphere, the Press Conference evolved into two parallel monologues, where Vladimir Putin repeated his revisionist argument in full, with no intention of negotiating or retreating for the sake of peace.
However, Donald Trump described his long communication with President Putin as "productive", at a time when the Kremlin considers that any delivery of US Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would constitute a provocation. At the same time, some US allies believe that the missiles are the only strong card the White House has to push Putin to agree to a peace deal, as the losses would be many times higher than today, if the weapons system is activated.
However, both Putin and Trump are expected to sit down at the negotiating table in Hungary to see "if we can end this 'inglorious' war between Russia and Ukraine," as President Trump told Social Truth, adding that "I believe a lot of progress was made with today's call."
According to the Washington Post, Putin also tried yesterday to convince Trump that Russia had the upper hand on the battlefield, although the exact number of casualties remains a "black box" and a carefully guarded secret for the Russian side.

Optimism from Ukraine
Given this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that "the dynamics of limiting terrorism and war that he achieved in the Middle East will help end Russia's war against Ukraine."
"Putin is certainly no more courageous than Hamas or any other terrorist organization. The language of power and justice will inevitably work against Russia as well. We can already see that Moscow is rushing to resume dialogue, as soon as it heard about the Tomahawks," he assessed.
The Ukrainian president stressed that there should be no alternative to reliably guaranteed peace and security, noting the need "to protect people from Russian attacks and strikes as soon as possible."/ Pamphlet
