While the Bank of Albania has raised the alarm about the dangers posed by uncontrolled loans and is trying to curb irresponsible lending that has caused serious financial problems for thousands of citizens, one state institution is moving in the opposite direction.

The Albanian Post Office, a public institution, has opened its doors to microcredit companies, practically transforming itself into a public service point for Iute Credit, one of the most criticized private entities for its high interest rates and harsh practices towards customers.

In an announcement published on social networks, the Albanian Post informed that citizens can apply for Iute Credit loans directly at its counters, presenting this as a "simple opportunity" for financing.

In reality, these are loans with much higher interest and fees than those of banks, which often trap citizens in a cycle of debt, which, as the microcredit scandal showed, can have serious economic and social consequences.

The clients of these companies are usually people who are unable to obtain bank loans due to insufficient income, lack of employment or negative payment history. This makes them easy targets for microcredit institutions, which offer small amounts, but with interest rates that quickly multiply the financial obligation.

Meanwhile, it is recalled that microcredit scandals in the country have led not only to thousands of cases of "legal robbery", but also to two losses of life, as a result of strong pressures to repay debts.

Despite these events, the Albanian Post, as a state institution, is offering microcredit companies its official network to expand their activity, giving them a certain legitimacy under the state logo.

This approach contradicts warnings from the Bank of Albania, which has long called for stronger controls on borrowers' solvency and limiting access to high-risk loans. Instead of protecting citizens from unfair debts, the Albanian Post is becoming their intermediary.

Meanwhile, Etjen Xhafaj, a former SP MP, has just been appointed head of the institution.

This is a blatant example of how state offices are turning into instruments of financial extortion, betraying the public mission that they should protect the interests of citizens.
