Socialist MP Erion Braçe has published the denunciation of a farmer from the Myzeqe area who is on the verge of bankruptcy due to the "deceptive" practices of the milk processing company, Lufra.
In a message to Braça, the farmer accuses the company of "destroying" them with strategy. Specifically, after initially significantly reducing the price of milk collection, according to him, the Lufra company has now cited the presence of aflatoxin as an excuse to reject their product.
Erion Braçe describes this as a foretold crisis and emphasizes that the roots of the problem lie in the fiscal and economic policies pursued by the Rama government.
He also states that the Value Added Tax (VAT) scheme and the action against informality, undertaken in July, served as an instrument to favor imports and large factories, to the detriment of small producers and local livestock farmers.
According to Braçe, the aflatoxin justification is a pretext, while large factories will orient themselves towards imported raw materials, which are favored by current fiscal policies and the exchange rate. The MP described policymakers as “public finance wizards”, disconnected from the difficult reality of Albanian farmers and livestock keepers.
"We are farmers from the Bubullima area. The Lufra dairy company is destroying us. Until yesterday, there was a scheme where people allegedly threw water, presumably milk, at them. They lowered the price completely, but now they have allegedly also released aflatoxin and are trying to drive us away completely. Where should we put us? Where should we take the cows? Where the hell are we going to drown? Why isn't the Minister of Agriculture reacting? And so on.
Something is happening that I had practically warned about. The value-added tax scheme definitely favors imports. And there was a debate about this at the end of last year, both in November and in December, but when you don't understand, you don't understand.
The second thing, which is just as important, was the action against informality with the aim of increasing food security. Which was the instrument sought by these large factories to hit the middleman in the market, which were the dairies.
The collapse of dairies, as I announced, has left only two factors in the market: the farmer, the livestock farmer in this case, like this lady here who writes to me and many others as her job, and I will show you the messages one by one, and the factories.
Now, after the total destruction of the dairies, the farmer has nowhere to take his milk, either to the factory and at the price the factory wants, or anywhere else.
Order, this is happening. So now they're telling you that you have milk with aflatoxin. Where are they taking it?
Okay, but how does the factory produce? It probably found the material somewhere else.
That Albania, due to humidity, must be plagued with aflatoxin.
What remains the source? Import. Import, favored also by the exchange rate, favored also by the value added tax of these magicians of Albanian public finances, who never understand and will never understand, that they have never lowered their minds there, to the cowshed, where these people have built their lives. It's that simple," the deputy says.
