From June 2022, the most disobedient drivers on the road, those considered "traffic bombs", who break the rules the most and consequently lose their license, will not have it easy at all to regain it.
With the legal changes of that year and the introduction of the points system for licenses, this category of drivers had to return to driving school all over again to regain the right to drive.
According to figures provided by Report TV, in the 37-month period from June 2022 to July 2025, 2,329 people applied to regain their license after losing a total of 20 points by registering with a driving school. This is only the number of registrations, as the majority of those who ultimately lost their license are much higher, but some do not return for various reasons.
However, getting back into driving school after being a driver for several years is not that easy. Only 314 people were able to get their license back, or 13.4%. In fact, this is the goal of the law, to make it as difficult as possible for "roadside bombers" to get back behind the wheel and endanger others.
But why is it so difficult to get a patent back?
If those who want to get a license for the first time have some lapses, from taking the theory test 5 times in 6 months, or tolerating 4 mistakes; out of 40 questions in total, the same thing does not happen when you try to get your license back after losing points.
First, you must register with a driving school, pay the fees, complete the theoretical course, and take the exam, which you only have 1 chance to take, not 5 times. If you make even one mistake in this single opportunity, you will not qualify. Testing for this category is done once a month, monitored by cameras.
And if you want to fight to get your license again, you have to go back to driving school in the same cycle, with payments from the beginning. So, the goal is to make life harder for those with road problems, to put it in phraseological terms, so that they can become drivers again.
But how is a license revoked according to the Highway Code?
A person with a license has 20 points at their disposal, which can be deducted over time if they commit traffic violations. The most serious violation for which the license is revoked is when they are drunk with more than 1.5 g/l. In other conditions, when an accident has occurred and they have left the scene of the incident, 15 points are revoked, leaving only 5. In the following, it is enough to not stop the police when they signal for them to remove the remaining 5, leaving them with zero points, and practically without a license.
Other violations that remove significant points from the license are drugged drivers, 10 points the first time, accompanied by suspension and 15 points if repeated within a year. However, drugged drivers are no longer simply subject to the Highway Code, as they are referred to the Criminal Code, they are arrested and any other measure is complementary. /Shqiptarja.com
