Arben Malaj harshly attacks Rama: The crime-related scandal destroyed the

Former Finance Minister Arben Malaj has made strong accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama. He said that the latter has criminalized politics and the economy, while evaluating the citizen protests as a necessary reaction to the situation in the country.

While commenting on the protests against the project in Zvërnec, Malaj said that the government has not been transparent about the investments and that the citizen reaction has refuted the perception that Albanians do not react in the face of power.

"These are the protests that we as Albanians should be grateful for. The idea was created that we cannot face neo-dictatorships and that the Albanian people do not react, do not protest, but accept to be subjugated. The noblest thing about this protest is that it rejected this myth that was built for Albanians in relation to their rights," Malaj said to "Syri TV".

The former minister also touched on the debate on foreign investments, emphasizing that Albania must guarantee fair competition and legal certainty for every investor.

"We are not against Kushner or Ivanka. On the contrary, we tell them to come to Albania and invest. But Albania must have legal certainty, fight corruption, and American companies must enter through a competition. Rama's economic model, shared with the oligarchs that he himself created, has made Albania increasingly expensive and Albanians increasingly poor," he declared.

Malaj also commented on the controversy created after the burning of an Israeli flag during the protest, saying that the protest cannot be identified with an isolated incident and that history proves the relationship of Albanians with Jews.

"It cannot be said that an incident shames Albanians. Albanians have shown since 1442 and during World War II that they have been a safe haven for Jews. Attempts to present the protest as anti-Jewish are attempts to discredit it," Malaj said.

He reserved his strongest criticism for Prime Minister Edi Rama, accusing him of links to the criminal world and of distorting the political system.

"I completely agree with all the remarks made to Rama. He did something that has never happened before in Albanian politics: he made a fuss about crime and criminalized part of the economy and politics. The roots of what we see today are in the model that was built years ago and that destroyed political competition," declared the former socialist minister.
