Tragedy in Texas/ The number of victims reaches 120, the search and rescue

The number of victims who lost their lives during the natural tragedy that 'invaded' Texas has exceeded 120.

The latest victim was recorded in Kerr County, which has so far reported 96 fatalities, according to an update from authorities.

"Officials report there have been 96 confirmed deaths (60 adults/36 children) and five campers and one counselor from Camp Mystic are still missing ," the Kerr County Flood Response update said.

At least 27 people died when flash floods swept through Camp Mystic, which is located on the banks of the Guadalupe River, on July 4.

According to a July 2 state inspection, there were 386 campers and 64 staff members at the Guadalupe River section of the camp, where the worst flooding occurred, as well as 171 campers and 44 staff members at the nearby Cypress Lake section of the camp.

Ten minutes north of South Fork is Camp La Junta, a boys' camp. Parts of the camp overlap with areas known for flooding.

According to local officials, at least 150 people are known to be missing in Kerr County as a result of the July 4th floods.

NASA says it has deployed two aircraft to assist in ongoing recovery operations in Texas.

"The aircraft are part of the response from NASA's Disaster Response Coordination System," she said in a statement.

While cloudy weather conditions have made it difficult for NASA to obtain clear satellite images of the affected areas, a series of flights will help gather information about the area, she said.

The WB-57 aircraft equipped with the DyNAMITE sensor will provide "high-resolution imagery, critical for damage assessment and supporting the coordination of recovery efforts on the ground. This system enables real-time data collection and analysis, increasing situational awareness and accelerating response times to emergencies," the statement said.

Additionally, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar (UAVSAR) has been deployed. It can penetrate vegetation to detect water that optical sensors cannot. With this technology, the team's goal is to characterize the extent of flooding to help understand the extent of damage within communities.
