The new US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, made a double public appearance over the weekend, arriving in the Greek capital at noon last Saturday by private flight, to officially assume her duties.
In the premiere of her new role, that of the head of the American Embassy in the neighboring country, Ms. Guilfoyle attended the annual Marine Corps Ball, which this year coincided with her arrival in Athens, having the opportunity to spend several hours with leaders of the American Armed Forces, their Greek counterparts, as well as the American diplomatic mission.
Present at this event were the Ministers of National Defense and Maritime Transport, Nikos Dendias and Vassilis Kikilias respectively, as well as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Haris Theocharis.
Then, yesterday, Ms. Guilfoyle attended a private musical event featuring the sounds of singer, Konstantinos Argyros, in the presence of elite business representatives.
At one point, the US ambassador to Athens even danced with other attendees at the event.
Accompanied by her son, Ronan, the new US ambassador to Athens greeted those present with a short speech, stating that she is looking forward to taking office and promising that everything she plans to do will leave them satisfied.
"I will not let the US and Greece down," said Kimberly Guilfoyle, who seems to have been preparing for her debut in the Greek capital for some time.
United States President Donald Trump has nominated former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, a longtime ally who campaigned extensively with him, as ambassador to Greece.
Trump's decision to choose 55-year-old Guilfoyle and not Greek-American Congressman Gus Bilirakis, whose name had been heard for this position, comes because the new US president's team decided that she would not be at risk of a possible loss of control of the House of Representatives, a development that could potentially hinder the implementation of Trump's policies.
Support for Trump and his relationship with his son
Guilfoyle's name first surfaced in the political arena in 2016, when reports suggested she was a possible choice to become Trump's first White House press secretary. However, Sean Spicer was eventually chosen.
The next step in politics for Guilfoyle was her participation in the campaign to raise money for Trump's candidacy in the 2020 elections and later in 2022 she was called to testify in the investigation of the occupation of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as she allegedly helped raise money for the organizers of the episodic march of Trump supporters.
In August 2020, she even gave a fiery 6-minute speech at the Republican convention accusing the Democratic Party of being "socialist" and claiming that a Biden election would lead to the destruction of the US.
It was during this time that she became close to Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., with whom they made their first joint appearances at speeches at American universities.
In 2022, she announced that she was engaged to Trump's son, with whom, however, she reportedly broke up despite her appearance at the side of the new US president on the night of his election victory in November.
The New York Times points out, in fact, that the announcement of Guilfoyle's nomination came hours after reports that Donald Trump Jr. is in a relationship with influencer Bettina Anderson.
