The Supreme Court has overturned the Appeals Court's decision that had upheld the "prison arrest" measure for Ilir Meta. It has ordered that the case be reexamined by the same panel of judges in the Special Appeal. Earlier, this court had rejected Meta's request to change the security measure.
The Supreme Court has returned for retrial in the Appeal Court the security measure against former president and PL leader, Ilir Meta.
It should be noted that these developments bring a turning point in this case. The Supreme Court has decided to overturn the Appeals Court's decision and return the case for reconsideration to the same court.
According to the decision, it concerns the annulment of decision no. 25, dated 30.01.2026, of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, ordering that the case be reviewed again by the same panel.
The proceedings are related to Meta's request to change the security measure, based on several articles of the Criminal Procedure Code, as well as the European Convention on Human Rights.
Ilir Meta continues to be in custody as a person suspected by the Special Prosecution Office of committing three criminal offenses: "passive corruption", "failure to declare and conceal assets" and "money laundering", in connection with the investigations into CEZ DIA, the lobbying in the US of the former Socialist Movement for Integration, as well as the property investigation that the prosecution conducted against him and his family members.
