Veljko Paunovic is the new coach of Serbia. The federation announced the decision today, regarding the 48-year-old technician.
The Secretary General of the Serbian Football Federation, Branko Radaujko, has confirmed the appointment of Paunović. The decision is surprising, as previously only the acceptance of Dragan Stojković's resignation had been confirmed. For this, no other name was expected in such a short time, except for the staff of the U-21 team.
" Veljko Paunović has shown from day one that the interest of the national football team is his priority. His priority was not the contract or financial conditions, but to immediately make himself available to the Football Federation of Serbia and take over the team at such an important moment."
"He stressed that he wants to focus all his energy on the upcoming matches against England and Latvia, determined to fight as long as he has even the slightest chance of success ," the general secretary said.
Paunovic ended this month with Real Oviedo in Spain. Initially, it seems that he was only entrusted with the November matches.
