Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal's lavish 18th birthday party has been investigated by Spanish authorities amid allegations of discrimination and the inclusion of women selected based on physical criteria. Meanwhile, one of the dwarfs invited to the party has spoken out publicly, denying any allegations of abuse or violation of dignity.
The "mafia"-themed party was held at a private villa, with guests including footballers Alejandro Balde, Gavi, Lewandowski, Raphinha, and celebrities such as IShowSpeed, Charles Leclerc, and singers Chimbala and Ozuna. Yamal shared only a minute of footage from the party, while guests were prohibited from using phones or cameras.
The scandal began when model Claudia Calvo, a former Miss Teenage Spain, claimed she was approached to attend the party for a fee, along with 12 other blonde girls "with a certain breast size." She said she was offered up to 20,000 euros for 24 hours of attendance, but she declined after finding the demands suspicious.
Meanwhile, the ADEE Association (Association of People with Achondroplasia and Skeletal Dysplasia) reacted strongly, condemning the use of people with dwarfism as entertainment and warning of lawsuits if a violation of Spanish law on the protection of the dignity of people with disabilities is found.
But one of the dwarf entertainers present at the party, in an interview with RAC1, defended Yamal and emphasized: “Nobody offended us, they let us work in peace. We signed confidentiality agreements, but we did normal shows: we danced, we gave bottles, we did magic.” He criticized the ADEE leaders, adding: “We are not monkeys in the show. We want to work and they prevent us.”
Under Spanish law, any performance that ridicules or belittles people with disabilities is prohibited and can be punished with fines of between 600,000 and 1 million euros. So far, Lamine Yamal has not made any public comment on the allegations or the ongoing investigation.
