Marash Kumbulla's future seems far from Roma. The Albanian national team defender has returned to Trigoria after the end of his loan in Spain, but everything indicates that he is not part of coach Gian Piero Gasperini's plans for the new season.
The Verdhekuq club is working to settle players who are not considered part of the project and Kumbulla is one of the main names on the list of departures. The directors' objective is a permanent transfer, which would bring the club income to finance new approaches in the summer transfer market.
According to transfer expert Mateo Moreto, three La Liga teams have shown a concrete interest in the 26-year-old. These are Rayo Vallecano, Levante and Elche, who have requested information from Roma about the terms of a possible deal.
Their interest is not accidental. Kumbulla left a positive impression during his experience in Spanish football last season and his profile continues to be appreciated in La Liga. However, to this moment there are no official offers or advanced negotiations between the parties.
There is a belief in Trigoria that a sale is the best option. Kumbulla's contract with Roma expires in the summer of 2028, while another loan would significantly reduce the club's ability to benefit financially from his departure.
Currently, the Albanian defender continues to train with the team, but according to Italian media, he is not part of the main group on which Gasperini is building the new Roma. For this reason, it is expected that he will not have space in the friendly matches of the preparatory phase.
In addition to Kumbulla, the list of players expected to leave Roma also includes Salah-Edine, Pagano, Cherubini and Vasquez.
Plum does not surrender
Although the signals from the club are not positive, Marash Kumbulla himself has not lost hope. In recent statements he has made it clear that his desire is to stay at Roma and convince Gasperini that he deserves a place in the team.
However, with interest from Spain growing, a return to La Liga seems the most likely scenario for the Albanian defender. If one of Rayo Vallecano, Levante or Elche decides to move from interest to a concrete offer, Kumbulla's adventure with the red and yellow jersey could finally end this summer.
