A major debate has erupted in Turkey regarding the goal scored by Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera in the victory over Kayserispor on May 18, 2025, after suspicions were raised that the moment may have been part of a possible match-fixing scheme.
According to reports, the penalty from which Muslera scored was allegedly planned in advance, with the goal of the goalkeeper finding the net and winning bets placed on this scenario. The odds on Muslera's goal were reportedly 130.00, one of the highest odds offered by betting companies.
Reports also claim that Galatasaray vice-chairman Maruf Gynesh allegedly placed a €5m bet on Muslera to score. According to the same claims, the profits made were then used to help finance the transfer of striker Victor Osimhen.
Turkish authorities have launched an investigation into the case, but there has been no official ruling or confirmation to substantiate the allegations. If the allegations are proven to be true, the case could turn into one of the biggest match-fixing scandals in Turkish football history.
Currently, the case remains under investigation and it is expected that future developments will shed more light on the veracity of the allegations.
