Yasir Asani responds to rumors of a possible transfer to Yokohama:
“ It’s a secret, but I’m still a Guangzhou player .” The Albanian winger, who plays in the South Korean league, has added fuel to the fire regarding his departure in the summer, confirming that he is receiving multiple offers, with Japan’s Yokohama Marinos among the interested parties. After the 2-2 draw with Daejeon, Asani briefly addressed the Korean media in the mixed zone. When asked directly about a possible transfer, the 30-year-old replied with a smile:
“ It’s a secret .” Pressed further, he added mysteriously: “ I’m here now ,” before stressing his commitment to Guangzhou for the time being. Behind the scenes, however, a move is looking increasingly imminent. Japanese media reports suggest that Yokohama, currently enduring one of their worst seasons in the league, are pushing hard to sign Asani. But the winger made it clear that the Japanese side are not the only ones in pursuit. “It’s not just one club that has made an offer,” he confirmed after the match.
The situation - Guangzhou Evergrande, currently under disciplinary investigation for violating K League financial regulations, are reportedly preparing to part ways with Asan this summer. With just six months left on his contract, the transfer window is closing in on a deal to recoup a significant transfer fee estimated at €660,000. A club representative admitted that negotiations were underway:
“ Other clubs are in talks with us. The fee is likely to be lower than what was discussed in the winter ,” he said. Recalling that in the winter, Asan was said to be asking for 1.5 million euros. Despite the numerous transfer speculations, Asan put in a great performance against Daejeon, scoring a goal and assisting another. His left-footed shot settled the score and a clever pass allowed Park to score Guangzhou’s second goal.
Coach teasing - Head coach Le Jung-Hyo offered a strange assessment of the Albanian's mood: " Asani seems to be in a good mood lately. Why? I think we'll find out soon ." When informed of the coach's remarks, Asani responded:
" I was under pressure, not having played for the national team, but returning to Guangzhou has calmed me down. I feel comfortable here and that has helped me perform well. I'm still here. If we stay focused, Guangzhou can climb back into the race for the Asian Champions League. We have the quality ."
