It's hard to believe!
The American financial magazine "Forbes" has published a current list of the highest-paid footballers. At the top, of course, remains the world star of Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The advantage he has over his biggest competitor for years, Lionel Messi, is incredible!
Forbes estimates that Ronaldo will earn $230 million (around €196 million) in the 2025/2026 season. In addition, the Al-Nassr star will receive approximately $50 million (around €42.7 million) off the pitch from his club's commercial deals with companies such as Nike, Binance and Herbalife. This means that he will earn a staggering $280 million (around €239 million) before taxes and commissions.
Ronaldo is the world's highest-paid footballer for the sixth time in recent years. Media company Bloomberg recently named CR7 the first football billionaire with its "Billionaires Index".
The business website estimates Ronaldo's net worth at $1.4 billion (approximately €1.21 billion).
Messi comes in second place. However, the gap with CR7 is huge. According to Forbes, the Argentine superstar of Inter Miami earns approximately 130 million dollars (approximately 111 million euros) per year, 150 million dollars (approximately 128 million euros) less, not even half the amount of Ronaldo!
The 2022 World Cup winner will receive a salary of $60 million (around €51 million) and an additional $70 million (around €60 million) off the pitch, including deals with Adidas, Lay's and Mastercard. In addition to his stake in the MiM hotel group, he has had his own sports drink (Mas+) since 2024 and has been part of the "El Club de la Milanesa" restaurant chain since this year.
Behind them, from third to fifth place, are Karim Benzema (Al-Ittihad, US$104 million/approx. EUR89 million), Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid, US$95 million/approx. EUR81 million) and Erling Haaland (Man City, US$80 million/approx. EUR68 million).
It's surprising that none of the top three play in Europe.
