Croatia secured its first victory at the 2026 World Cup, defeating Panama 1-0 in the Group L match, held in the early hours of Wednesday morning Albanian time.
The match was decided by Ante Budimir, who after coming off the bench scored the decisive goal in the 54th minute, giving the Croatians their first three points in this edition of the World Cup.
On the other hand, Panama suffered its second defeat in as many matches and remains without points, mathematically losing any chance of qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.
The match was also special for Luka Modric, who made his 200th appearance for Croatia. The legendary midfielder joined a very small group of players with over 200 international appearances, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Bader Al-Mutawa.
After the first two rounds, England lead Group L with four points, the same number as Ghana in second place. Croatia is third with three points, while Panama closes the table without any points.
Everything will be decided in the final group matches, where Panama will face England, while Croatia and Ghana will discuss a challenge that is expected to be decisive for qualification. A draw could bring both teams significantly closer to the 1/16 stage, but the match still promises rivalry and emotions until the end.
