Singer of Albanian origin Eleni Foureira has spoken openly for the first time about the fear she felt at the beginning of her career to publicly reveal her origins, admitting that she was afraid that this could close the doors to the music industry in Greece.
Guesting on “The 2Night Show,” Foureira revealed that she grew up believing that her Albanian background could prevent her from having the same opportunities as others. “When you grow up, this fear creeps in. I thought that if I said I was from Albania, I wouldn’t be given equal opportunities. That was the reality I experienced,” she said.
The singer also recalled the difficult moments her family experienced, revealing that her mother often cried over the comments and prejudices her daughter faced. "My mother would hug me and cry, saying, 'My daughter, what have they done to you? You haven't done anything,'" Foureira confessed.
She added that the support of people close to her helped her continue her path in music, while the public appreciated her for her talent and not for her origin. During the interview, the artist also shared the story of how she met her partner, former footballer Alberto Botía. She said that she first met him about ten years ago, when he, then part of Olympiacos, had gone to the bar where she was performing after a team victory.
“When I saw him, I thought: 'How handsome he is, is he an actor or a model?' I had no idea who he was,” she said with humor. Botía later sent her a message on Instagram, congratulating her on her performance.
"We started talking, we went out together and everything started naturally. In November we celebrate 10 years together," the singer revealed. The couple have a son, Hermes, born in February 2023, and continue to be one of the most popular couples in Greek showbiz.
