The Socialist Party received a strong result with 83 mandates in the parliamentary elections of May 11, but several representatives of the opposition who left it and joined the Socialists in the campaign also contributed.

One of them was Endrit Braimllari, former head of the Freedom Party (former LSI) structures, who ran for the SP on the open list in Tirana and received 1,900 preferential votes.

Invited today to 'Studio Live', the member of the Tirana Municipal Council said that the goal during the campaign he conducted was to maximize the vote for the SP and number 5 and then the campaign for preferential votes.

He explained that not only did he feel good within the SP where he worked as a group, but there was no internal struggle for votes, as discipline, organization, and a common goal were observed, which was the final result for the mandates of the deputies.

Regarding the opposition he was once part of, Braimllari explained that they lost one of the biggest chances in these elections, where the Socialist Party proved to be the most capable of using it as an electoral card, which was the regeneration of the party with new figures, as 53 MPs will be new in the Assembly.

"During the entire month of the campaign, I felt part of the team, it had its own rhythm, I received a satisfactory number of votes, but the priority was to maximize the vote for number 5 of the SP and the call was for this. Because the more votes the SP received, the more mandates were translated and then divided into candidates. The goal was to get the maximum. I think I made a modest contribution, because the SP is a great organized force. Time was short, I would have liked to have more votes, anyway I thank everyone for the support and I feel appreciated. I expected the SP to have a better result in Tirana than in 2021 and I had predicted that it would be better, where out of 18, 19 mandates were received, also as a result of discipline, internal harmony and maximizing votes. The maximum result was obtained and it is satisfactory", Braimllari told Report TV.

He emphasized harmony within the socialists and the ability to work as a team, something that was lacking in the opposition he belonged to for many years.

"There was harmony within the SP group and there was no competition or vote orientation, we even called for voting for other candidates, rather than ourselves in some cases. So, contributions were made to the candidates, because in the final, the important thing was for the SP to win. Meanwhile, the competition within was positive, which served the result. The SP started with an advantage, in the combination it made of the lists for deputies, where it gave space to the new generation, what the SP citizens were looking for and Prime Minister Rama gave them. The inclusion of old SP figures in the open list served the competition and the maximization of the vote. The other party was closed in the safe lists. Another factor was the message beyond the left and the right, for European integration and the message for EU membership. The result of 83 mandates was precisely thanks to this work and what had been done by the government in four years," he argued.

The candidate expressed regret for the strategy chosen by the DP and PL, especially in the case of his colleague in the Tirana Municipal Council, Ilir Alimehmeti.

"I am sorry that Dr. Alimehmeti is out of parliament even though he has 18,000 votes in the DP, I have him as a colleague in the Municipal Council, he is a positive figure and it is unfortunate that he will not be in the Assembly. This was a mistake of the Democratic Party with the lists, I had also said during the campaign that the way the opposition made the lists did not seek political rotation, but how to own the DP. Meanwhile, the SP, with the combination of lists in Tirana and the regions, sought to go beyond the previous result and for the European path, it was for a massive vote to make the European passport a reality", explained Braimllari.

Asked about the results of his former party, the PL, he said that he didn't even really know how many votes the president or his former colleagues had received.

"I don't really know how many votes he received or how he fared in the PL elections, but the European path and my contribution to the SP are important to me. The Socialist Party is a force that works every day, that regenerates and looks ahead, it is a matter of ability, desire and vision. This card that the opposition could have used, the SP used, where 53 are new MPs and 70% are also young. Rama gave the Albanian political class a chance for reform, when in fact the opposition should have done it. The polls since 2017 are the same, because citizens want non-conflict politics, new faces or the regeneration of politics," he said.

The SP candidate stated that the opposition is moving towards a conflictual spirit and seeks instability, while on the other hand the government seeks to lead the country towards EU integration.

"The opposition seeks instability, does not seek progress, party regeneration, etc. I feel sorry for journalist Aulon Kalaja in Durrës, he received 8 thousand votes and remains outside parliament. The opposition did not give messages of regeneration and progress. My message to former opposition colleagues is to look at the European future of the country, the European passport and the future of our children, beyond the political war. EU membership requires everyone's attention," he said.
