On Wednesday, Prime Minister Rama, who is also the leader of the Socialist Party, engaged in meetings, where he first received the deputy mayors of the Municipality and the candidate Manastirliu, and then met with the Socialist MPs of Tirana and ministers. In both meetings, Rama emphasized the elections for the Municipality of Tirana, considering them an indispensable process.
Edi Rama's Socialists are rapidly concluding all the organization related to the by-elections in Tirana, while within two weeks from the moment the Prime Minister announced the candidacy of Ogerta Manastirliu and instructed the Socialist councilors to dismiss Erion Veliaj as Mayor, they have carried out the entire preparatory process within their ranks.
Belinda Balluku, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, will lead the Socialists' campaign for the Municipality of Tirana. This is the decision taken by Edi Rama, after meetings with Tirana MPs and ministers.
Thus, after the officialization of Ogerta Manastirliu as a candidate for Mayor, Belinda Balluku was appointed as the campaign manager for the local by-elections for Tirana.
The latter was the campaign leader for the Fier Region in the parliamentary elections of May 11, where she won 12 of the 16 parliamentary mandates that this region has.
On the other hand, Sali Berisha's Democrats and allies are unable to produce a candidate, even though several names are in the running. Jorida Tabaku and Ilir Alimehmeti have declared that they will not enter the partial race, due to the fact that the mayor who will replace Erion Veliaj will have a mandate that will last no more than 18 months, until the 2027 elections.
After that, several names have been mentioned, and several others have even offered themselves as candidates. It is still not known when the opposition will make a name official, although there are several ideas circulating, ranging from civil society figures to political figures.
On Wednesday, September 24, Prime Minister Edi Rama held two important meetings. First, with the four deputy mayors of the municipality, the acting mayor Anuela Ristani, and Ogerta Manastirliu, the official SP candidate for the position of new mayor.

Rama, according to reports, is even said to have declared that regardless of the candidate the other side (the opposition) may nominate, he will enter the race as a loser and will emerge even more of a loser.
The government is expected to formalize today, during a meeting of the Council of Ministers, the dismissal of Erion Veliaj as Mayor.
The vacancy is then expected to be announced and it is up to the President of the Republic to set the election date for Tirana.
Veliaj, on the other hand, through his legal counsel, is expected to appeal the decisions, whether of the Municipal Council or the Government, while he previously requested to be heard by Tirana councilors before they made the decision.
As is rare in the Tirana Municipal Council, 50 councilors from the SP, the DP and its allies, united their votes to dismiss Veliaj as Mayor, a decision that was announced by Edi Rama on September 11, from the hall where he had gathered the SP Assembly to present the new names of ministers. From this meeting, Edi Rama called for the start of the process for Veliaj's dismissal, and even sealed the decision after announcing Ogerta Manastirliu as the SP candidate for the Municipality of Tirana.
