Berisha accuses Rama: Pensioners were cheated with the bonus, funds still

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has accused the Rama government of defrauding pensioners through the electoral bonus scheme.

In a press conference, he stated that, although several months have passed since the May 11 elections, the funds promised for this category have not been distributed, while pensioners face continuous price increases.

Berisha stressed that pensioners have not benefited from any amount from the 240 million euro fund deposited in the State Bank for 2025.

"So many months have passed and pensioners have not received a penny from the fund deposited in the State Bank of 240 million euros of unspent money during 2025. According to government decisions and promises, they would be disbursed as bonuses to pensioners," Berisha stressed.

According to him, the bonus scheme is unfair, as a large portion of pensioners do not benefit or receive minimal amounts.

Berisha added that the situation of this group is deteriorating, especially due to the significant increase in food prices.

"Today, I want to denounce the cynical, heartless attitude of the government of Edi Rama towards the most vulnerable, most damaged layer, which is the layer of Albanian pensioners.

The stratospheric increase in prices, deeply influenced by the energy crisis, has hit and is hitting this deceived layer more and more every day, ignored to an extreme extent by the government.
First of all, I want to emphasize that the bonus scheme, used in the May 11 elections, after the elections was proven to be a real fraud.

So many months have passed and pensioners have not received a penny from the fund deposited in the State Bank of 240 million euros of unspent money during 2025.

According to government decisions and promises, they were to be disbursed as bonuses to pensioners.
Not a single penny from this fund has been disbursed to date, which means that it is being used by the government for other purposes and is being saved to be given to them at the end of the year.

So, retirees are not being provided with stratospheric prices that increase from week to week, from month to month.

Secondly, the bonus scheme is a fraud because in this scheme over 45 percent of pensioners receive nothing, or receive crumbs, two kilos of tomatoes or three kilos of cucumbers.

In fact, the bonus received under this scheme almost completely excludes all pensioners with disability pensions, incomplete pensions, and so on.

So every day the lives of pensioners become more difficult.

"If we consider today prices that have never existed in the vegetable market, a market in which a kg of tomatoes is sold at least 7 times more expensive than 7-8 years ago, this makes this layer of 750 thousand citizens feel the impossibility and great daily difficulties for their food.
This makes this layer unable to buy the medicines they need for the daily treatment of diseases, and it is known that the incidence of chronic diseases in this layer is very, very high," said Berisha.
