The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has approved Israel's participation in the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, officially confirming the decision during its General Assembly in Geneva. The meeting aimed to reform the contest's rules and address political tensions that have engulfed the event since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
The decision not to put Israel's exclusion on the ballot came amid strong calls for a boycott from several participating countries. The protests began months ago, when several countries warned they would withdraw from the competition in protest at Israel's military actions in Gaza.
So far, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and Slovenia have officially confirmed that they will not participate in Eurovision 2026, which will take place in Vienna from May 12 to 16. Iceland, for its part, has announced that it will make a final decision next week.
