A 48-year-old man convicted in Italy for drug trafficking has been arrested in Lushnja for the purpose of extradition to the neighboring country.
Bledar Buxheli, also known as Bledar Çelo, who was internationally wanted by Interpol Rome, has been arrested.
The arrest was carried out as part of the next phase of the "Fast" police operation, after his location by FAST Albania structures, in cooperation with the Fier Local Police Directorate.
According to the State Police, the Venice Court of Appeal sentenced the 48-year-old to 11 years in prison for the criminal offense of drug trafficking in 2024. Of this sentence, he still has 8 years, 6 months and 24 days left to serve.
Meanwhile, Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with Interpol Rome, has initiated procedures for his extradition to Italy.
"Another phase of the police operation codenamed "Fast" is being finalized, for the capture of internationally wanted persons. The operation was carried out by the Search Sector (FAST Albania), in the Directorate of the Special Operational Force in the Criminal Police Department, in cooperation with the Fier DVP. A 48-year-old man from Lushnja, sentenced in Italy to 11 years in prison for drug trafficking, is located, captured and arrested for the purpose of extradition.
Following the successive operations to capture internationally wanted persons, the operational services of the Search Sector (FAST Albania), in the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, in cooperation with the Fier Local Police Directorate, finalized another phase of the police operation codenamed "Fast". As a result of well-coordinated operational actions, in Lushnja it became possible to locate, identify, capture and provisionally arrest, with the aim of extradition to Italy, the citizen Bledar Buxheli alias Bledar Çelo, 48 years old, resident of Lushnja.
This citizen was declared internationally wanted by Interpol Rome, after the Court of Appeal of Venice, Italy, in 2024, sentenced him to 11 years in prison for the criminal offense of "Drug Trafficking", provided for by the Italian Criminal Code.
"From this sentence, he has 8 years, 6 months and 24 days of imprisonment left to serve. Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with Interpol Rome, is continuing the procedures for the extradition of this citizen to Italy," the police announced.
