The economy, the main concern of Albanian citizens

More than half of adults in Albania list the economy as their top national concern. Gallup global survey data shows that 58% of respondents cite high prices, low wages, and living standards as the dominant problems that directly affect their economic well-being.

Albania is included in the group of countries where over half of the population sees the economy as the most important national issue. This level of concern significantly exceeds the global average, where only 23% of adults identify the economy as a major problem. The difference suggests a more pronounced perception of economic pressures in the country, compared to most other countries.

Gallup finds that concern about the economy varies by country's income level. In high-income economies, an average of 21% of citizens cite the economy or the inability to afford basic needs, such as food and shelter, as their main problem. This figure rises to 31% in upper-middle-income countries, 36% in lower-middle-income countries, and 38% in low-income countries. Within this latter group, 14% of respondents specifically highlight difficulties in securing food and shelter, a significantly higher proportion than in other groups.

The survey results highlight that pressures on the cost of living and real incomes remain determinants of public perception in Albania and in low-income countries. The economy continues to be a central issue of public debate, reflecting the gap between formal economic growth and citizens' real experience of living standards.
