The Board reduces the price of diesel and gasoline, at what prices fuels will be

In today's decision, the Board announced that retail oil, i.e. at gas stations, will not be sold for more than 209 lek per liter, down from 217 lek that was set the day before.

The Transparency Board has today reduced the price of fuel in Albania, compared to the day before, when the same board set figures that were considered abusive, compared to international fuel market prices.

In today's decision, the Board announced that retail diesel, i.e. at gas stations, will not be sold for more than 209 lek per liter, down from 217 lek that was set the day before. Meanwhile, the retail price for gasoline will be 175 lek per liter, down from 176 lek the day before.

The new prices come into effect at 4:00 PM today (April 11), and it is not known whether or not there will be another Board meeting to move prices again.

What is known so far is that in Albania, the price of fuel is the highest not only in the Region, but also in some of the EU countries. This is due to the fact that there is a high level of taxes that every vehicle user is obliged to pay for every liter of fuel they buy. The government has refused to follow the policies that many countries in the Region or beyond have applied at this time of fuel crisis, which is not known how long it will last due to the open conflict in the Middle East.

"The Transparency Board on April 11, 2026, at its next meeting decided:
The retail price of the SSH EN 590 standard diesel by-product shall be no more than 209 lek/liter, while the wholesale price shall be no more than 197 lek/liter.
The retail price of the SSH EN standard gasoline by-product shall be no more than 175 lek/liter, while the wholesale price shall be no more than 163 lek/liter.

The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, 11:00 AM, and will be valid until the next board meeting, where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.
We draw the attention of every operator of wholesale and retail sales of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision.

In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided.
The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market.

EXPLANATION: Referring to Normative Act No. 1, Date 3.4.2026 "On an addition to Law No. 61/2012, "On excise duties in the Republic of Albania," as amended, which provides that if the retail price for diesel is higher than 220 lek/liter, or for gasoline is higher than 200 lek/liter, the 80% excise duty level shall be applied. Based on the implementation of the methodology for calculating the retail sales ceiling prices, the prices are below the limit of Normative Act No. 1, date 3.4.2026, and consequently the excise duty level shall be applied in full, 100% ," the announcement states.
