United States President Donald Trump declared that the naval blockade on Iran will remain in force until an agreement is reached on the country's nuclear program.
In an interview with Israeli television Channel 12, he stressed that Washington does not plan to lift restrictive measures against Tehran.
Trump argued that the naval blockade is a more effective means of pressure than military intervention. " It's more effective than bombing ," he said, adding that the Iranian economy is under severe pressure.
According to the US president, Iranian authorities are urgently seeking a deal to ensure the lifting of the blockade. He also warned of possible consequences for Iran's energy sector, estimating that the energy infrastructure could face collapse if oil exports remain blocked.
Channel 12 reported that Trump's statements constitute a rejection of an Iranian proposal presented earlier this week. According to this proposal, Iran suggested opening the Strait of Hormuz and temporarily lifting the naval blockade, while talks on its nuclear program would be postponed to a later stage.
