A serious event shook the city of Berlin on Monday evening, where a powerful explosion in a private apartment in the Buckow neighborhood, in the Neukölln district, caused the death of a woman and the injury of eight other people, including four children.
The incident occurred in a single-story house, where the explosion caused significant damage to the structure of the apartment. Windows were blown out and pieces of masonry were scattered across the street. Fortunately, although the building suffered extensive damage, there was no immediate risk of collapse and surrounding buildings were not affected by the explosion.
The causes of the incident have not yet been confirmed, but preliminary suspicions indicate that it may have been a defect in the heating system, specifically in the apartment's chimney, that caused the explosion.
Of the injured, one child and one adult are in serious condition, while the other six have received minor injuries. All have been transported to various hospitals in the capital and their condition is under control.
Dozens of firefighters and civil emergency personnel responded to the scene, trying to extinguish a small fire that followed the explosion and secure the area to avoid further possible incidents. Investigations into the exact causes of the explosion are still ongoing. Experts will analyze the heating installations and ventilation systems to accurately determine the source of the defect that led to this tragedy.
