Peace in Ukraine is being brokered between Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. A US official confirmed to the BBC that a meeting with Russian officials will take place in Abu Dhabi.
This comes after discussions in Geneva between the United States and Ukraine on a draft peace plan. Another US official told Reuters that US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll held talks with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the American peace plan is essential. He stressed that it is impossible to discuss the security architecture without the Europeans.
Russia, the Kremlin spokesman said, is interested in achieving its goals through diplomatic means and remains open to negotiations.
"Currently, the only substantial option is the American project, the Trump project. We believe that this can be a very good basis for negotiations," Peskov said.
