A senior Iranian military official has warned that countries that implement sanctions against Iran could face problems passing their ships through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime corridors for global oil trade.
Brigadier General Amir Akraminia, spokesman for the Iranian Army, stated that countries that support the US policy of sanctions against Tehran will encounter difficulties in this strategic waterway.
"From now on, countries that follow the United States in implementing sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly face problems when passing through the Strait of Hormuz," he told Iranian state media.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered a key point for global energy supplies, while tensions in the region have increased after Iran's repeated threats against ships linked to countries that support the US and Israel.
Meanwhile, several Western countries are discussing the creation of a joint mission to protect maritime transport in the region. The UK has announced that it will send a warship to the Middle East to strengthen maritime security after the conflict.
